Saturday, September 22, 2006The Free Clinic of Central Virginia (FCCV) has given support in the form of suprlus medical and pharmaceutical supplies to other medical clinics troughout the world in the past 12 months. Beneficiaries include Free Clinics in Virginia as well as clinics in storm devastated and/or poor areas in Mississippi, Louisiana, Haiti, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and other Third World countries.
These donations have totaled over $50,000 in overall value since November 2005.
Beginning with two large shipments of medical supplies valued at more than $20,000 in November 2005 to the Gulf States, the FCCV has extended its aid beyond Virginia’s borders.
This spring, it provided medical supplies through a third-party to Port Au Prince, Haiti, and Andijon, Ubekistan.
In August, surplus medications were sent to to clinics in Biloxi, Miss.; in Septmeber they were sent to Gulfport, Miss.
These gifts totaled about $15,000, and they were delivered by area mission groups.
The FCCV’s policy, according to director Bob Barlow, is to help others whenever it can.
If the time ever comes when the FCCV needs assistance, let’s hope the old adage “you get back threefold what you give away” holds true.
