The Free Clinic of Central Virginia held its annual James River Basketball Tournament March 17-18. As usual, it was a great success due to the financial and in-kind support from the following financial contributors: The News & Advance, Barr Labs, Rehabilitation Associates of Central Virginia and Frito Lay (gold sponsors); Benchmark Systems, Centra Health and Scott Insurance (silver sponsors); American National Bank, Campbell Insurance, First National Bank of Altavista, Generation Solutions, N.B. Handy Inc., Industrial Products, Schewels and Southern Air (bronze sponsors); and Hurt & Proffitt, BB&T and Flippen, Bruce & Porter (copper sponsors).

The patients and board members especially thank Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and the Jubilee Family Development Center for their staff members’ time before and during the event as well as the use of their excellent gymnasium facilities during the weekend. We offer our grateful thanks!

The tournament was a success also due to the professional officiating by the Colonial Officials Association under the leadership of Bob Walker. Scoring and clock volunteers included Yolonda Johnson, Chrishonda Davis, Dominique Penn, Georgia Delbridge, Shelley Edwards and several Jubilee Center persons. Without this group’s help, the tournament could not have run as smoothly.

The following companies/corporations sponsored teams in the tournament and supported their participating employees: Abbott Laboratories/Ross Division, Archer Creek/Intermet, Areva, Barr Laboratories (second Place), BWXT, Diebold, Genworth (champions), Lynchburg Fire & EMS Department, Progress Printing, Timken, Tri Tech Labs (consolation bracket winner), Westover Dairy and Weyerhauser Paper.

We thank everyone for helping us fulfill our mission to provide medical, dental, and prescription services to the uninsured and underinsured in Central Virginia. After expenses, we raised $8,600.
