On May 26, the Free Clinic of Central Virginia and the Blue Ridge Medical Center (Colleen – Nelson County) were awarded the Virginia Health Care Foundation’s (VCHF) prestigious annual 2010 Teamwork Award. The award was for the joint development and establishment of the Nelson Dental Clinic (Roseland-Nelson County) as a satellite dental service of these two clinics for the residents of Nelson County. This is the first formal partnership in the Commonwealth of Virginia between a federally funded community health center and a free clinic to cooperatively operate a dental facility. It will serve as a model for others in the state to follow. Trophies and checks for $1,000 were presented to the respective Executive Directors, Peggy Whitehead and Bob Barlow.
