Free Clinic Honors Two
Lynchburg News and Advance
Friday, March 17 2006At an awards reception following the Downtown Loft Tour on Feb. 25, the Free Clinic recognized the unselfish contribution of resources given by two late Lynchburg citizens. Ralph Kiger was an 18-year volunteer in the pharmacy at the Free Clinic. Ralph gave many, many hours filling patient’s prescriptions. Present to receive the “In Memoriam” Award were Ralph’s sister, Esther Lloyd, and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Sandi Kiger. Ralph’s wife, Bonnie, was with us “in spirit” as she was on a mission trip. Ralph’s name has been added to the clinic’s memorial plaque and his picture hangs beside it.
Elisabeth “Lib” Forsyth offered personal and financial resources to the clinic over a 10-year period. She made a donation of $10,000 in 1992 to help purchase the Free Clinic building, saved the MedsHelp Program with a $50,000 donation in 2001, supported the clinic’s work with a $10,000 gift in 2002, and made other donations throughout her life. A plaque in recognition of her support will be erected in the front lobby of the clinic. Nancy Forsyth Walker, her daughter, received the plaque on behalf of the family.
The event was graciously catered by the Academy Cafe, Depot Grill, and the new Mediterranean Deli.
