Free Clinic Of Central
Virginia |
|
| Mission | The Free Clinic of Central Virginia, Inc. is dedicated to the belief that everyone should have access to health care services. Our mission is to provide primary medical, nursing, dental, pharmaceutical, and educational services to those in Central Virginia who do not have the resources to obtain this basic health care. |
| Structure | The Free Clinic is a private,
non-profit corporation with an IRS 501-C 3 status. An independent volunteer board of directors governs it. |
| Services |
|
| Eligibility | Patients are screened for financial eligibility. Several criteria are used, including the most recent Federal Poverty Guidelines (less than 200% of the FPL). Generally, patients must lack financial access to health care services for financial reasons. We provide targeted services to uninsured and underinsured individuals. |
| Support | Twenty-six percent of the Free Clinic’s funding comes from the United Way of Central Virginia. Additional support comes from individuals, businesses, churches, and civic organizations. Fund raising projects include the Downtown Lynchburg Loft Tour, James River Basketball Tournament, Golf Tournament, Hillcats Skybox Night, and an Annual Campaign. The Free Clinic’s operating budget for FY 2007-2008 is $580,000. Centra Health, pharmaceutical companies, many area health care providers, and local businesses provide $5.7 million “in-kind” support. |
| Statistics | Since it opened in 1987, the Free Clinic of Central Virginia has served over 16,000 different individuals. In calendar year 2007 the Free Clinic provided 15,000 patient visits of various kinds and filled over 30,000 prescriptions |
