FREE CLINIC RE-FUNDED FOR DENTAL PROGRAM
The Free Clinic of Central Virginia, Inc has been advised that its grant from the Virginia Health Care Foundation based in Richmond has been renewed for 2004-2005. This $52,000 award will enable the FC to continue its partnership with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry to offer a full daytime dental program at the clinic. Services offered at the Free Clinic will include: dental exams; dental hygiene; restorations (filling of cavities); and extractions.
In 2003-2004, the Free Clinic was able to see almost 700 unduplicated patients for over 1,500 visits for dental care through this program. These persons were in addition to the approximately 500 visits in the established evening program. Appointments for 2004-2005 will be accepted beginning in September, when the students return for fall term classes.
The Free Clinic is located at 1016 Main Street in Lynchburg, and it serves eligible residents of the City of Lynchburg and Counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell for medical, dental, and pharmaceutical support. Eligibility is based on household income and the lack of any health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. Dental services are provided to patients with Medicare and Medicaid if their income meets Free Clinic criteria.
